WNBA Is Salivating

This is Brittney Griner, a 6-foot-7 junior in high school in Texas. She will be attending college at Baylor University, and the WNBA have, or should have, already contacted her about leaving college early for the league.

A regular dunker in the WNBA? If I am the commissioner of the WNBA I am sending a personal trainer to Griner's house to improve vertical so she can posterize everyone in the league by the time she gets there.

WNBA's Savior

Now this would give me a reason to watch the WNBA on a nightly basis. Dennis Rodman is seeking to become a WNBA head coach (no word yet on whether he will wear a sports bra).

Rodman is ready for the next challenge in his life.
"Any of my teammates can tell you that my knowledge of the game is
second to none. My team would learn the skills that made me the player that
will send me to the Hall of Fame. Our players would be in top physical
condition. We would lead the league in rebounding, have a defensive-minded
identity, and we'd run the triangle offense."

I always liked Rodman, antics and all, he was a hard worker on the hardwood floor in the NBA. I think this would be perfect for the WNBA. It would really make me watch the games in which his team was involved in.

Michael Cooper is an all-time favorite Laker of mine, but he could not get me to watch when he was with the Los Angeles Sparks. Bill Laimbeer is someone I hate because he was with the Detroit Pistons, and punked Kurt Rambis in a game; not going to get me to watch.

But Rodman, that is a different story. Imagine Rodman doing the Phil Jackson whistle and putting up the triangle sign with his hands? Classic. I believe him, I think he would get a team to buy into what he has to sell.

The only problem that may arise is him partying with the women after their games, and taking it past the coach-player relationship into the "more than friendly zone."

His manager and agent are scheduled to meet with WNBA teams.

WNBA Commissioner Donna Orender better get on the horn with the teams with coaching vacancies and give them ultimatums: "You hire Rodman, or I will bring referee Tim Donaghy into our league."

(Side note - you know it is sad when I Google "WNBA Commissioner" and this comes up: "Did you mean: nba commissioner". Ouch.)

Okay, Okay...

I admit it, I watched the game 4 of the WNBA finals. And like Patrick commented on this page (I really do appreciate the feedback), it was very entertaining. Hell, it was better than watching the Spurs-Cavaliers NBA finals.

Cappie Pondexter and the Phoenix Mercury forced a deciding fifth game by defeating the Detroit Shock 77-76 last night.

The clutch shooting by both teams impressed me the most, as well as the defense that was played. So yes, I will watch the final game in its entirety on Sunday. The game will be played at The Palace in Auburn, and I hope they do not use the same public address announcer as the Pistons do; that guy is just plain annoying. I will take a Lawrence Tanter any day of the week.

It was also nice seeing Karl Malone in the stands of the game (to watch his daughter Cheryl Ford). I used to despise Malone until he went to the Los Angeles Lakers, and I got to read and see more about him. Too bad he had to join the Lakers so late in his career, it would have been nice to see him get a ring in a Lakers uniform (although it would have been more fitting in a Utah jersery).

So kids, the moral of the story: Don't be too quick to judge. (I still reserve the right to not like the league though)

This League Is Still Around?

This may be a couple days late, but it is not like anyone will notice...
It seems the WNBA is desperate to show that they actually have fans of their "league". AT&T and Airmaster want to ensure that women's basketball fans "have an opportunity to experience the Detroit Shock".

Um ok... Maybe AT&T is high on iPhone money, but there are not ANY women's basketball fans. I mean aside from Sue Bird and my personal favorite, Diana Taurasi (she just does it for me), is there any reason to watch that league? I think all women's basketball should be banned after college, and even that is pushing it.

Look, I am not being sexist, it is just tough to watch. If I wanted to see 20% shooting from the field I would rejoin the basketball league I participated in, where my team went 2-11 (one of those games we won we had a 5-on-4 advantage).

And I just noticed that Taurasi is in the WNBA finals, which means I will catch one minute of the series now. I hope the Phoenix Mercury win it now, not just because of Taurasi, but because I hate Bill Laimbeer forever.
Actually let me take that back, upon further review my unknown love for Taurasi has disappeared, so I wanted to picture Bird instead. Sorry WNBA, another lost TV audience member.

Must...post...new...entry...can't have WNBA...on the very top...
