"This Could Be The Greatest Moment in American Sports History"
I remember hearing that line from ESPN broadcasters during the telecast of last year's annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition when Joey Chestnut defeated Takeru Kobayashi, and having nothing to do but laugh at that statement.
The sporting world will have a chance to hear more over-top-statements when Chestnut and Kobayashi square off head-to-head in Las Vegas in a buffalo wing eating contest. The competition will take place Tuesday, October 9, at the Fremont Street Experience.
It will not be aired until October 18, so I may have to drive to Vegas just to catch this monumental occasion. I want to pick Kobayashi to win, but I have to go with Chestnut since he holds the current record in chicken wing consumption. He will no doubt be riding a high from his big win on the Fourth of July over Kobayashi.
I raise my hat off to these guys. I remember being in a hot dog eating contest on Fourth of July at my Nina's house and only being able to put down six dogs in the ten minutes. While Chestnut averaged 5.5 hot dogs per minute last year!
The special will air on Spike so set your digital video recorders...
