MMA Ban in Vancouver
Vancouver city council has temporarily banned MMA after previously allowing live fights in the city.
But they adopt hockey as their sport? Hockey is a sport in which there are constant acts of violence on the ice.
Take this video as an example:
That happened in an exhibition game on Tuesday night. There were also two broken wrists suffered in the game.
Look I get the whole, "we need to keep the integrity of our community," but the NHL fans cheer the violence just as much. Casual hockey fans along with diehards go crazy when two players throw off their gloves to "get it on" on the ice.
It is not like MMA is not organized: they wear gloves and have a referee watching the match (stopping the fight if it gets out of hand). They promote fighting in the "octagon" or ring, not in the street.
Like Chuck Lidell said in an appearance on the HBO show Entourage: "thats right, take them down... but not in the streets, here in the octagon."
Maybe Vancouver should realize that fighters hold after-parties the same night as their fights, even if they lose. I do not think hockey players with concussions can pull that off.
