"Crown Their Asses"

In the great words of Dennis Green: "If you want to crown them, then crown their asses..."

The New England Patriots have the media salivating at what could be a potential Super Bowl season after their win over the New York Jets yesterday. Randy Moss had a big debut for the Pats, catching all nine passes from Tom Brady and scored a TD, on his way to 183 yards. Ellis Hobbs had a nice day as well, setting an NFL record with an 108-yard kickoff in the second half.

But lets get to what I really want to talk about: why are we so quick to crown a champion in the first week? Every article I see, or every analyst I hear is ready to hand the Lombardi trophy to Brady and the Pats. "Their offense is crazy good!" Yes, they put up 38 points with good all around performances on both sides of the ball. But why is everyone quick to forget that it was just this past Thursday that the Colts put up 41 points on a Saints team that is supposed to be one of the top teams in the NFC?

And talking about the Colts, doesn't the championship go through Indy? They were equally impressive, continuing their strong play on the defensive side of the ball that decided to show up at the right time last year.

Maybe I am just suspicious about the Pats because they steal signs from other teams.
